Everything you need to know about extending your tourist stay in Turkey beyond the 90-day visa period. Learn how to apply for a tourist residence permit legally and avoid overstay penalties.
Many visitors fall in love with Turkey and want to stay longer than their initial visa allows. The tourist residence permit provides a legal pathway to extend your stay beyond the 90-day limit, allowing you to explore Turkey's rich culture, history, and lifestyle without worrying about overstay penalties.
A tourist residence permit is a type of short-term residence permit issued for tourism purposes under Turkish immigration law. It allows foreign nationals to stay in Turkey beyond the standard 90-day tourist visa period, typically for up to 1 year. This permit is ideal for visitors who wish to travel extensively, explore different regions, or temporarily settle in Turkey.
The standard tourist visa allows 90 days of stay within any 180-day period. If you need to stay longer, a tourist residence permit is your legal solution — you cannot simply exit and re-enter Turkey to reset the clock.
Fill out the application form on the official e-ikamet portal. Select "Tourism" as your purpose of stay. Print and sign the completed form.
Schedule an appointment at the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management. In busy cities like Istanbul and Antalya, appointments may be available several weeks out.
